Case Study: SOBO Creates Augmented Reality App for Top Recording Artist

Since then, we’ve been hard at work identifying what the future of SWAG looks like and have been putting a lot of time into this area of our business.

Recently, we had an opportunity to develop an augmented reality app, but without any SWAG attached (…yet). We were approached by the management of Latin, Grammy-winning superstar, Ricardo Arjona, to add augmented reality functionality to his new album, Viaje. The award-winning artist has a tremendous following. How many artists – Latin American or otherwise – can say they’ve sold 20 million albums?

Although SOBO primarily focuses on adding augmented reality to promotional products and apparel and not as a straight-up tech company, they liked our energy, reputation and the fact that our team speaks Spanish and understands the Latin American and US Hispanic markets.

Although the app is primarily to view the album’s hidden video footage, we’ve added some basic information about Ricardo as well as instructions as to what you can do if you haven’t yet purchased the album. For a hardcore fan, it’s a huge incentive to purchase the album. Imagine a 9-year-old girl getting the chance to go backstage at a One Direction concert, and you’ll imagine how geeked out his fans must be.

In fact, we’ve got the numbers to support it – in just over a month since launching the app, more than 9,600 users spending over 47,000 viewing sessions have used the app.
