SOBO Knows Hispanic SWAG


By Dean Schwartz – As a Miami-based company, we’ve got a front-row seat to the hilarity and beautiful cultural blending that takes place every day in our beloved city. Miami is the U.S. city where South American, Cuban, Mexican and virtually every other Hispanic-rooted nation meets. And with the dramatic population shift in our country – Hispanics will make up more of the population in 20 to 30 years than Caucasians will – it should come as no surprise that we’ve developed some impressive insight into Hispanic trends and cultures – and not just in Miami. As a result, we’ve gained a tremendous amount of insight into the mindset and purchasing behaviors of the Hispanic population, as one successful case study begets another. Thankfully, that experience has helped position us as a top Hispanic-focused distributor, attracting clients such as Miller, MasterCard, Tecate, and more.

What have we done for clients like this? Well, a little bit of everything.

We’ve worked with Miller’s Miller Lite brand on numerous occasions; one such instance was when we developed a customized soccer jersey as a part of their marketing initiatives for the 2010 World Cup. Constructed from scratch, it included a custom-designed Aztec graphic on the chest with a humorous name selection for the back. They loved it – and it delivered on its promotional ambitions, too.

In addition, we created a customized lucha libre mask for Miller as part of their promotional sponsorship of the Chivas Guadalajara soccer club. Successful? You bet. We’re actually on our third production run of the mask and have recently designed a new one for 2013

Final Face Paint

Tecate also came to us in search of a 2010 World Cup promotional item, but with a hitch – because of certain state liquor laws, each promotional item couldn’t cost more than $1.00. Not to worry. Our SOBO Concepts team developed a face paint pack with Mexican team national colors to appeal to the hard core soccer fan. Tecate’s agency says this was one of their most successful give-a-ways to date.
