What is ‘Creativity’?

By Dean Schwartz: Creativity. Everyone says it’s important – especially in our custom promotional products industry – but what is it really? Is it about ideas? Is it about brilliant finished products? Sure, it’s those things, but it’s more than that.

For SOBO Concepts, creativity doesn’t start with ideas and end with finished products. That’s only part of the battle. But we’ve missed the mark if our creative finished products don’t connect in a meaningful way between your business and your customers.

So how do we set ourselves apart? How do we ensure that we hit our mark each and every time? If creative promotional products are a delicious birthday cake, then our creativity starts before we ever step foot in the kitchen. Creative energy is everywhere around us – in our loft-style office, in our workspaces and in our conversations. We surround ourselves with images and products that inspire and dazzle us. We discuss ideas that challenge us. We collaborate often – okay, always – to discuss which ingredients are going to help us produce incredible work. And then? Well, we’re still just getting started.

In order to guarantee that our customers get the best creative work available, and because we love helping brands differentiate themselves, we include graphic design for free with most orders. Do we get customers who ask for us to mindlessly slap a logo on a t-shirt or pen anyway? Sure. But we always suggest other options. Sometimes, they choose to stick with their original plans. But more times than not, they’re thrilled with the complimentary mock-ups or samples that we produce; we show them just how far we’ve stretched the creative limits on their idea.

At the same time, we recognize that we’re not the final authority on all things creative. Which is why we work with designers all over the world to ensure that each project gets the expert treatment that will deliver the desired end-product. Ideas are everywhere.
