Case Study: Yoga Mat + Amazing Design = SWAG!

By Dean Schwartz (SWAG Master): We create all sorts of SWAG, but some of our favorites are those that incorporate unique design elements. Do you remember those full-color bottles with the gorilla face on them? If not, check them out here – it’s worth the click. The bottles were designed by Bob Faust, a crazy talented designer that came to SOBO after he was unable to find another promotional product company that could deliver his request. Bob’s artistry is unmatched, so we’re always eager to work with him, and we can’t wait to see what we create together next. Our most recent project was this beautifully designed yoga mat.

Yoga Mat + Amazing Design = SWAG!

THE CHALLENGE

Yoga mats are tricky – plain and simple.

• Heat transfers don’t work well with PVC mats, so you’re limited with colors options.
• There are some other eco-friendly rubber options that can handle more in terms of design, but they wouldn’t allow for the intricacy needed for this design.
• When printing anything, how it looks on a screen isn’t always how it’s going to print (which is why we always suggest a sample if time allows!), and we needed to make sure we found a product that would match Bob’s high quality design work.

THE SOLUTION

But, where there’s a will – there’s a way!

• We printed using a micro-fiber suede mat, knowing that the high quality material would work perfectly with the beautiful and intricate designs we had in mind.
• We customized the mat to have a 4mm rubber base to ensure comfortability.
• The design was digitally printed onto a microfiber suede material.

This wasn’t without challenges, though, and there was one hold up in production. After receiving the printed sample the client felt that the colors were just a bit too dull and lacked the vibrancy his design required. Fortunately, he was working with SOBO.

• We addressed the color issue and revised the product multiple times until the design was as perfect as the print would allow.

THE RESULT

In the end, we delivered on 100 printed mats that met the designer’s vision.

• He was super happy with the final print.
• The event went great, and the unique design of the yoga mats even gained some local press.
